Gold Coast
Schoolies on the Gold Coast will take place between Saturday, 21 November and Saturday, 28 November 2009.
Each night the central section of Surfers Paradise Beach will be fenced for exclusive access by schoolies. Known as the Schoolies Hub, the area will host a free entertainment program featuring DJs from two beach stages, an LED Screen and late-night sitcoms. The hub will be open most nights from 8pm-midnight.
Recharge Zones will also be located close to the Schoolies Hub for you to keep hydrated with free water, recuperate and generally receive support.
Look out for Schoolies Support Team Volunteers in their brightly coloured orange vests, as well as the Red Frogs crew who provide practical support and advice, assist with directions, referrals to other support services and provide assistance to walk you home if you feel unsafe.
Your wristband will give you access to the RACQ free2go buses each night for safe transportation between the major hotels from Surfers Paradise to Main Beach (north) and Broadbeach (south).
Police, emergency services, security guards and officials will maintain a highly visible presence during Schoolies, providing the community and visitors with additional support and assistance.
Organised Schoolies activities will run only during the official program dates. However, in Surfers Paradise extra police officers will patrol the area during and after the Gold Coast Schoolies Community Safety Response to maximise public safety.
Getting your wristband on the Gold Coast
Schoolies wishing to access the free Schoolies Hub on central Surfers Paradise Beach will need an official wristband which will be distributed on proof of Year 12 student photo ID.
Schoolies who have booked accommodation through schoolies.com must collect their official wristband from Red Frogs volunteers during check-in at their hotel on Saturday, 21 November, only.
Schoolies staying at alternate accommodation, with family or friends, or visiting for the day, can collect an official wristband from the Wristband Distribution Centre on the Esplanade, parallel to central Surfers Paradise Beach.
The Wristband Distribution Centre will be open on:
- Saturday, 21 November, 10 am - 11 pm.
- Sunday, 22 November to Friday, 27 November, 4 pm - 10 pm.
- Saturday, 28 November, 10 am - 11 pm.
Removing or sharing a wristband will make it invalid. Schoolies are urged to keep their wristband on for the duration of their stay on the Gold Coast.
