Volunteers
Volunteers support and assist schoolies to have an enjoyable, but ultimately, safe time. Each year hundreds of dedicated and tireless volunteers give up their time to assist young people and to help deliver vital safety services.
Volunteers support police and other emergency service personnel by providing extra eyes and ears on the ground, as well as a friendly face that schoolies can trust to provide them with the right advice and support when needed.
Things to consider before becoming a volunteer:
- Volunteers must be aged 18 and over.
- When you register to become a volunteer you will be given an opportunity to choose the dates and times that suit you best. Volunteers are needed during both the day and night for a wide range of duties including street patrols, registration and office duties.
- All volunteers will be required to undergo training.
- Volunteers will need to be able to provide their own transport and accommodation. No reimbursement is available for any costs incurred.
- All volunteers are required to hold current Blue Cards issued by the Children's Commission for Young People and Child Guardian and will work as part of teams.
- Once you register your interest in becoming a Schoolies volunteer you will be provided with information on applying for a Blue Card.
- Holders of an existing Blue Card are encouraged to check the expiry date, as a new application will need to be lodged prior to November 2009.
As a Schoolies volunteer you will work closely with a number of community organisations and government departments to enhance the safety of young people who arrive in each location.
